Tweet A Bowl Full of Sky: Collaborative Drawings Where the Ohio River and the Mississippi meet, the clear waters of one and the muddy waters of the other merge to form a liquid seam that vanishes gradually as the currents churn the silt and the waters mingle on their meandering route south. Further downriver, in St. James Parish, Louisiana, there's a bridge whose southern terminus once ended in a swamp but now carries Louisiana Highway 70 over the river to connect the tiny towns of Donaldsonville and Sorrento. The Sunshine Bridge was named by Jimmie Davis, AKA "Governor Sunshine", who penned the song "You Are My Sunshine." It was his own pet project and the original "bridge to nowhere". The Sunshine Bridge Drawings are a series of collaborative works by Louise LeBourgeois and Steven Carrelli. In them, two related but distinct sensibilities merge to form a new stream that meanders slowly through a jointly imagined territory. The junctures swirl together, showing and disguising themselves. These drawings are both intimate and public, a bridge between two private and idiosyncratic visions. They are extended conversations in visual form, improvised journeys in which we might dip a ladle into the river and discover that we've poured ourselves a bowl full of sky. While not a bridge to nowhere, the destination is not as important as the encounters along the way.
