Augustina Droze

Buffalo, NY artist Augustina Droze creates optically powerful paintings of sumptuous color and mandala-like symmetrical compositions. These paintings depict small arrangements of fish, birds, moths and other insects, all magnified and rendered evocatively through a viscerally engaging impasto use of oil paint.

Says Droze of her work: "Painting has long been a source of mediation to me. Inspired by Buddhist Mandala paintings I am creating mediation rings of insects, birds, and fish. The beautiful patterns on the wings and bodies form a hypnotic composition. To me, the act itself of creating these paintings is meditative. The paintings are open to interpretation and some people view them as flowers or kaleidoscopes."

In addition to her studio paintings, Droze has acheived international acclaim for her large scale public murals. Many of these public works have a nature theme and often the subject matter is magnified. Says Droze, "I find the natural world fascinating to paint."
